Antonello da Messina Exhibition

Hotel Milano Castello is in a privileged position to reach in 5 minutes walk Piazza del Duomo and Palazzo Reale, home to the exhibition dedicated to Antonello da Messina.

Antonello da Messina, considered by scholars the greatest portraitist of the fifteenth century, has left an indelible mark in the history of Italian painting. In the limited number of works that until now have been attributed with certainty to his hand, one can admire the ability to mix the Venetian school with Mediterranean expressiveness and the Flemish use of oil painting.

Of these 35 masterpieces, around 20 will arrive in Milan; from great Italian and international institutions such as the National Gallery of London, the Uffizi and the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the paintings of the Messinese dialogue with the precious sketches and notes of Giovan Battista Cavalcaselle. Profound connoisseur of Antonello, Cavalcaselle put together the first catalog of his works in the second half of the 800 and returns today to the Royal Palace to lead to the discovery of a painting made of looks that kidnap and details that enchant.
